Diskus Inhaler Guide: Proper Usage & Asthma/COPD Management
The Advair Diskus inhaler is used to control and prevent the symptoms of asthma and lung diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. The inhaler contains a corticosteroid called fluticasone, which reduces irritation and swelling in your airways, and salmeterol, which opens airways. Both medicines are powders. The inhaler must be used regularly to be effective; it's not designed to work immediately so should not be used when you're having an asthma attack.
Instructions
Open the inhaler by placing your thumb on the thumb grip. Hold the device horizontally to keep the powder inside from falling out.
Slide the lever away from you until it clicks. Turn your face away from the inhaler and breathe out completely.
Put the device in your mouth. Completely close your mouth so that your lips are fully wrapped around the inhaler. Breathe in quickly.
Hold your breath for five seconds.
Remove the device from your mouth. Resume breathing normally.
