Spirometry and Pneumothorax: Risks and When to Perform Testing
Spirometry should not be performed on pneumothorax patients. Spirometry involves forced exhalation, which can increase intrathoracic pressure and worsen the pneumothorax. Patients with suspected or confirmed pneumothorax should undergo a chest X-ray and be closely monitored.
