Understanding Injection Types: IV, IM, and Subcutaneous
Intravenous (IV): This type of injection is given directly into a vein, usually in the arm or hand. The medication is delivered directly to the bloodstream and takes effect quickly.
Intramuscular (IM): This type of injection is given into a muscle, usually in the upper arm, thigh, or buttocks. The medication is absorbed more slowly than with an IV injection and may take longer to take effect.
Subcutaneous (SC): This type of injection is given just below the skin, usually in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. The medication is absorbed more slowly than with an IM injection and may take longer to take effect.
