What does it mean when stomach drops in pregnancy?
The feeling of your "stomach dropping" during pregnancy is often referred to as "lightening" or "dropping". It occurs when the baby's head settles into the pelvis, usually a few weeks before labour begins. This shift can cause changes in your body, including:
Relief from heartburn and shortness of breath as the baby no longer presses against the diaphragm.
Increased pressure on your bladder, leading to more frequent urination.
A change in the shape of your abdomen as the baby's head presses down.
Backache and pelvic discomfort as the baby puts pressure on these areas.
It is important to note that lightening does not mean labour is imminent, and it can still take weeks before your baby arrives. Enjoy this time as you prepare for the exciting journey ahead.
