What are the size and location of pancreas?
Size:
- The pancreas typically measures about 15-25 centimeters (6-10 inches) in length and 2-3 centimeters (0.8-1.2 inches) in diameter at its widest point.
Location:
- The pancreas is a retroperitoneal organ located in the upper left portion of the abdomen, behind the stomach. It lies transversely across the posterior abdominal wall at the level of the first and second lumbar vertebrae.
Anatomical relations of pancreas:
- The head of the pancreas is located in the curve of the duodenum (C - shaped first part of small intestine).
- The body of the pancreas extends to the left, along the lesser curvature of the stomach.
- The tail of the pancreas reaches upto the spleen.
