Breast Development in Girls: Timing, Stages & What to Expect
Breast development, also known as thelarche, typically begins between the ages of 10 and 14 in girls. However, it can start as early as 8 years old or as late as 16 years old. The average age for breast development is around 12 years old.
The first sign of breast development is usually a small lump under the nipple. This lump is made up of glandular tissue and fat. Over time, the lump will grow larger and the breast will start to take shape. The nipple may also become larger and darker.
Breast development can happen at different rates in different girls. Some girls may develop breasts quickly, while others may develop them more slowly. There is no right or wrong way for breasts to develop.
If you are concerned about your breast development, you can talk to your doctor. Your doctor can examine your breasts and make sure that they are developing normally.
