Bee, Wasp & Hornet Sting First Aid: When to Seek Immediate Medical Help
Bee, Wasp, or Hornet Sting
Call 9-1-1 or go to the hospital if:
- You are allergic to bees, wasps, or hornets.
- You are stung in the mouth or throat.
- You have been stung multiple times.
Treatment:
- Remove the stinger by scraping or flicking it off. Do not pull it out with tweezers, as this can squeeze venom into the skin.
- Wash the area with soap and water.
- Apply a cold compress to reduce pain and swelling.
- Take pain relivers as needed, such as ibuprofen or Tylenol.
- If you develop any signs of an allergic reaction, seek medical attention immediately. These signs can include:
- Difficulty breathing
- Swelling of the face, mouth, or throat
- Hives
- Nausea or vomiting
- Dizziness
- Confusion
- Loss of consciousness
