Why Does My Testicles Itch After Showering?
Persistent testicular itching ("jock itch") after showering can have several causes:
- Incomplete drying: Moisture promotes fungal growth. Pat dry thoroughly and air-dry before dressing.
- Harsh cleansers: Strong soaps strip natural oils. Use mild, fragrance-free cleanser.
- Skin irritation: Rough fabrics, tight underwear. Choose loose, breathable cotton.
- Allergic reactions: Fragrances, dyes in detergents or personal products. Test new products or use hypoallergenic options.
- Underlying conditions: Fungal/bacterial infection, eczema, STI. If symptoms persist with redness, discharge, or pain, see a clinician.
Prevention
- Dry groin completely after each shower.
- Wear loose cotton underwear.
- Use mild, unscented soaps; avoid fabric softeners/harsh detergents.
- Change underwear daily, especially after sweating.
- Avoid scratching.
If itching persists despite these measures, consult a healthcare professional.
