What is a labial frenulum?

The labial frenulum is a small fold of tissue connecting the upper lip to the gum just above the two central incisor teeth. It is made of connective tissue along with small muscle fibers. This acts to limit how far the upper lip can be raised. The frenulum also serves to prevent food catching between the teeth and the cheek.
