Household Cures for Skin Irritation
Skin irritations can be, well, irritating. If you find yourself itching and scratching in the middle of the night, when most stores are closed, you will most likely find yourself looking around the house for some natural cures. There are many treatments you can find in your home that are both inexpensive and effective.Things You'll Need
- Epsom salt
- Bathtub
- Oatmeal bath (or oatmeal and food processor)
- Baking soda
- Toothpaste
- Shaving cream (or moisturizing body wash)
- Razor
- Lotion
Instructions
Razor Burn
Soak your legs in warm water before you shave to soften the hairs.
Don't shave over the same section of skin more than once.
Shave in the same direction as the hair is growing.
Don't use a dull razor; it will require you to press down more firmly on the skin, which will cause irritation.
Use a moisturizing body wash or shaving cream when shaving to avoid making the skin dry, therefore avoiding razor burn.
Apply lotion after shaving to add moisture to the skin, and avoid putting on anything that will cause a lot of friction to the newly shaved area immediately after shaving.
Bug Bites
Press a deep "X" into the bug bite using your fingernail. This will help it to stop itching, as well as making it more difficult for you to scratch the bite, preventing infection and more itching.
Place a small dab of toothpaste on the bug bite.
Apply a pasty mixture of baking soda and water to the bite.
Take an oatmeal bath. If you don't have oatmeal bath from the drug store, you can use a food processor to grind regular oatmeal fine enough to mix in the bath.
Soak in a bath of Epsom salt.
