What is Non-neural compression of L5S1?
Non-neural compression refers to the compression of the epidural space or lateral recess due to degenerative processes, such as bulging or herniated discs, osteophyte formation, or hypertrophy of the ligamentum flavum. This compression can cause impingement of the nerve roots, resulting in pain radiculopathy.
L5-S1 is the most common level for degenerative changes to occur, as it bears a significant amount of weight and is subject to repeated motion.
