Modifier -47 means "Anesthesia by Surgeon" — the operating surgeon provides regional or general anesthesia (not just local infiltration).

For Multiple Procedures

• Modifier -51 = Multiple procedures (2nd, 3rd, etc.)
• Modifier -59 = Distinct procedural service (different site, session, lesion, injury)
• Modifier -50 = Bilateral procedure

Modifier -47 Details

• Appended to anesthesia code (00100–01999) or surgical code if surgeon administers anesthesia
• Requires separate anesthesia documentation (pre-op eval, monitoring, post-op)
• Not for local infiltration (included in surgery)
