Asperate: Definition and Usage in Surface Texture and Linguistics
Asperate can have two different meanings depending on the context in which it is used:
1. (of a surface) Rough or uneven to the touch; having small raised points.
* For example: "The walls were asperate with the bumps and ridges of the old wallpaper".
2. (Linguistics) (of a consonant sound) Pronounced with audible friction or turbulence, as in the English 'h'.
* For example: "The asperate sounds of certain languages can be difficult to pronounce for speakers of other languages".
