Arthropexy: Understanding Joint Fixation Surgery
Arthropexy is the surgical fixation of a joint.
It is one of the treatment methods for joint dislocation or instability, and is particularly suited for those who have failed conservative treatment.
Surgical techniques include joint capsulorrhaphy, tendon transfer and ligament reconstruction.
Arthropexy is performed when a joint is severely damaged and cannot be repaired with other surgical methods. It may also be performed to prevent further damage to a joint.
The surgeon will make an incision over the joint and remove any damaged tissue. The joint will then be repositioned and fixed in place with screws, pins, or wires. In some cases, a bone graft may be used to help support the joint.
