Goldenseal Mouthwash: A Natural Remedy for Oral Health
Goldenseal is an herb native to North America and has been used as a medicinal agent for generations. Native Americans introduced it to Europeans and since then it has been lauded as a cure-all. Goldenseal is used for a wide range of ailments, from mild mucus membrane irritations to ulcers. Frequently goldenseal is used as a mouthwash or gargle to treat colds, canker sores and gum disease.Things You'll Need
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 capsule goldenseal root
Instructions
Make a basic goldenseal root mouthwash by combining a quarter tsp. salt and the contents of one goldenseal root capsule to one cup warm water. It may not dissolve completely. Swish in mouth and spit out.
Make a mouthwash from a tincture of goldenseal root by adding two to three ml of tincture to one cup of warm water.
Prepare a tea made of goldenseal root by adding powered goldenseal root to hot water and allowing it to steep for 5 minutes. Add only as much as will dissolve in the hot water. Tea can be used as a mouth rinse and safely swallowed.
