Ear Drum Scabs: Causes, Symptoms & When to See a Doctor
It is possible to develop a scab (crust over a sore or wound) on the ear drum. When the eardrum is injured or inflamed, the outermost layer of skin can dry out and form a scab. This is most commonly seen in cases of acute otitis media (middle ear infection), chronic otitis media (long-term middle ear infection), or other conditions that cause damage to the eardrum.
Earwax can also become dried out and crusted, which can resemble a scab on the eardrum.
If you have concerns or experience any symptoms related to your ear, such as pain, discharge, or hearing loss, it is recommended to consult with a medical professional, ideally an Otolaryngologist(an Ear Nose and Throat specialist) for proper diagnosis, treatment, and guidance.
