Sickle Sharpening Guide: A Step-by-Step Tutorial
To sharpen a sickle, you will need a sharpening stone, a honing guide, and a safety glove.
1. Prepare the sharpening stone. Soak it in water for 15-20 minutes.
2. Put on the safety glove. This will protect your hand from the sharp edges of the sickle.
3. Secure the sickle in the honing guide. This will help you keep the sickle at the correct angle while you sharpen it.
4. Start sharpening the sickle. Move the sharpening stone back and forth along the edge of the sickle, from the heel to the tip. Be sure to apply even pressure.
5. Repeat Step 4 until the sickle is sharp. Test the sharpness of the sickle by cutting a piece of paper. If the sickle cuts the paper cleanly, it is sharp enough.
6. Wash the sickle with soap and water to remove any metal shavings. Dry the sickle with a soft cloth.
