The respiratory centre.
The respiratory centre is a group of neurons located in the brain stem that controls the rate and depth of breathing. It responds to changes in the levels of carbon dioxide and oxygen in the blood, and sends signals to the diaphragm and other respiratory muscles to adjust the rate and depth of breathing accordingly.
