Neti Pot with Herbs & Oils: Benefits & Safety
The Neti pot is an increasingly popular plastic or ceramic vessel that is used to clear the nasal passages. A warm mixture of salt and water is typically poured into the pot and then fed into the the nose gently for cleansing. Sometimes, users of the Neti pot add the essential oils of certain herbs to the salt and water mix for added benefit. Doing so in small amounts is most beneficial. While adding the essential oils from herbs is safe and beneficial, adding the herbs themselves is dangerous.Things You'll Need
- Water
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- Sesame seed oil
- Lavender oil
- Lemon oil
- Rosemary oil
- Spoon
Instructions
Fill your Neti pot with water. It is best to used purified water. You can also use tap water that has been brought to a boil for one minute and allowed to cool to room temperature. Water that is room temperature is the most comfortable for this process.
Pour 1/8 tsp. of salt into the water. The salt should be non-iodized. Iodized salt can include extra ingredients or additives that could be harmful to the inside of your nose.
Add two to three drops of sesame seed oil into the salt-water mixture. The sesame seed oil can be swapped with the following essential oils: lavender, lemon or rosemary.
Stir the solution thoroughly using a clean spoon. the solution is now prepared and you can begin to use the Neti pot as you normally would.
