Can a person get aphasia treatments even if its been 9 years passed?
Aphasia treatments can often begin about 6 months to a year after a stroke. However, there are some cases like in younger patients or those who have progressive neurological syndromes where recovery can be seen more than a year after. However, it is rare for improvements to be as significant after many years.
People can participate in speech and language therapy for their aphasia 60 to 90 minutes per week. If aphasia is the only disability, most people will only need three months of treatment. People with aphasia typically show significant language improvement within the first few months of therapy. With continued treatment, gradual improvement often occurs for about a year.
