Cleaning Your Abdominal Binder: A Guide for Post-Surgery Care
Abdominal surgery can be followed by a painful rehabilitation period. Abdominal binders can help ease a patient through recovery after C-sections, bariatric surgery or appendix surgeries. The binders are meant to provide support to the abdominal region postsurgery. It is important to ensure that your abdominal binder stays clean to prevent any infection.Things You'll Need
- Mild detergent
- Hydrogen peroxide
Instructions
Check the binder for any stubborn stains, such as bloodstains, prior to washing. Pretreat any stains with hydrogen peroxide. Place a small amount of hydrogen peroxide on the stain, then watch as the blood seems to bubble up.
After the stain bubbles, place the abdominal binder in cold water to set until the stain has disappeared or faded considerably.
For stains that won't budge, apply more hydrogen peroxide. Soak in cold water until the stains have lifted.
Hand-wash the abdominal binder in a mild detergent. Do not place the binder in a washing machine, as it can weaken the abdominal binder and make it less effective.
Hang the abdominal binder on a clothesline to air-dry. Do not place the binder in a clothes dryer, as it can weaken the abdominal binder.
