How to Use an Abdominal Binder
Recovery after any surgery can be quite demanding. After some surgeries, such as Caserean-sections, bariatric surgery or hysterectomies, resuming normal activities can be difficult. Abdominal binders are often prescribed after surgery to help a person resume activities such as walking, coughing or moving about. They are simple and effective tools in helping during the recovery process.
Instructions
Applying the Binder on Another Person
Ask the person to lay on a flat surface, such as a bed or couch.
Place the binder under the person's back. Make sure the back of the binder is placed where it would wrap around the person's stomach once closed.
Stretch out one end of the binder. This will ensure that the abdominal binder provides the maximum amount of compression to the person.
Grab one end of the binder and stretch it over the person's stomach. Use your hand to hold this end of the binder in place.
Take the other end of the binder and stretch it over the first end of the binder.
Fasten the binder by gently pressing the two areas of the abdominal binder together, making sure that the stretch of the binder is maintained.
Self-Application
Stand up before applying the abdominal binder to yourself.
Position the top part of the binder just below the navel line.
Stretch out both ends of the abdominal binder.
Wrap the binder around the stomach region, ensuring that the proper stretch is maintained.
Close both ends of the binder by pressing each end against one another, making sure that the binder is tight enough around the stomach.
