Understanding Hydrocodone: Uses, Forms, and Prescription Information
Hydrocodone (sometimes spelled incorrectly as Hydrocodine) is an opiate, which can also be referred to as a narcotic. It has two primary medical purposes, which are to relive multiple levels of pain or to suppress a cough.-
Types
-
Hydrocodone comes in three forms: capsule, syrup and solution. The need for the medication will determine the manner in which it is taken. It is usually recommended to be administered every four to six hours, as needed.
Prescription
-
Since Hydrocodone is a narcotic, you will need a prescription from your doctor before you can purchase it. It is not available over the counter and is illegal to purchase or possess if you do not have an appropriate prescription. If you have a sever cough or are experiencing pain, visit a hospital or your primary care doctor to see if she recommends Hydrocodone or a similar medication.
Cost
-
Cost will vary depending on three things. The first is whether you have insurance, the second is who your insurance provider is and the third is the coverage and co-pays that are a part of your plan. In addition, cost will also fluctuate if you purchase a generic versus a name-brand medication.
