Troubleshooting Catheter Removal After Deflation: A Step-by-Step Guide
1. Try deflating the cuff with a syringe while gently withdrawing the catheter.
2. Have the patient perform a valsalva maneuver while attempting to gently withdraw the catheter.
3. If #2 fails, wait 15-20 minutes and then try again or place another intravenous line in preparation for leaving the catheter in and calling the physician.
4. NEVER forcefully remove a catheter.
