Safe Body Cast Removal: What to Expect & How to Prepare
Although they can be stifling and uncomfortable, body casts serve an important purpose. Without a body cast, your bones or muscles might not heal properly. When the time is right, you'll have to consult with a health care professional about getting it removed. No matter what, it's not a good idea to try taking the body cast off by yourself.
Instructions
Make an appointment to visit a doctor or health care professional for cast removal. If it's time to remove the cast, you'll need a doctor to verify that the healing is done.
Make no attempts to place anything inside the body cast, before your removal appointment. This includes any lotions, baby powder, or water.
Practice patience as the doctor cuts through the body cast using a blunt electric saw. It will be a small sized tool that cannot harm your skin. You'll notice that the skin that was previously covered by the cast might appear more pale than before. The muscle or area that needed healing might not be at full strength, so be sure to follow the doctor's instructions regarding what you should do to follow up.
