Measuring Your Pulse: A Simple Guide
The pulse is a measure of your heart rate, or how many times your heart beats per minute (bpm). It can be measured by feeling the throbbing of your arteries, usually at your wrist or neck.
To measure your pulse, follow these steps:
1. Find a comfortable position, either sitting or standing.
2. Place your index and middle fingers on the inside of your wrist, just below the base of your thumb.
3. Apply light pressure until you feel your pulse.
4. Count the number of beats you feel in 15 seconds.
5. Multiply that number by 4 to get your heart rate in bpm.
Here are some tips for getting an accurate pulse measurement:
* Make sure you're relaxed and not moving around too much.
* If you can't feel your pulse at your wrist, try checking your neck.
* If your heart rate is irregular, take your pulse for a full minute to get a more accurate reading.
The average resting heart rate for adults is between 60 and 100 bpm. If your heart rate is consistently higher or lower than this, talk to your doctor.
