Mastitis vs. Metritis: Understanding Breast & Uterine Infections
Mastitis is not the inflammation of the uterus. Mastitis is the inflammation of the breast tissue, usually occurring in women who are breastfeeding. It is characterized by pain, swelling, redness, and warmth in the affected breast. Mastitis can also be caused by a bacterial infection.
The inflammation of the uterus is called metritis. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including infection, injury, or childbirth. Symptoms of metritis include abdominal pain, fever, chills, and vaginal discharge.
