Pink Eye Healing Time: Causes, Symptoms & Treatment
Pink eye (conjunctivitis) is an infection or inflammation of the conjunctiva, the membrane that lines the eyelids and covers the white part of the eye. Symptoms include redness, swelling, itching, and discharge from the eye. Pink eye can be caused by bacteria or viruses.
Bacterial pink eye usually lasts for 7-10 days. It can be treated with antibiotic eye drops or ointments.
Viral pink eye typically lasts for 2-3 weeks. It does not respond to antibiotics, and treatment is focused on relieving symptoms.
Both bacterial and viral pink eye are contagious and can easily be spread from person to person through contact with infected eyes or surfaces.
It's important to see a doctor if you develop pink eye, especially if you have severe symptoms or a weakened immune system. They can determine the cause of your pinkeye and recommend the appropriate treatment.
