Why does by eye not blink two weeks after a parotidectomy?

After a parotidectomy, the facial nerve that controls the blinking of the eye may be temporarily affected, resulting in an inability to blink. This condition is known as temporary facial nerve palsy and usually improves over time as the nerve recovers.
