Child's Knee Cut: First Aid & Wound Care Guide
First aid for a child's cut knee:
1. Stop the bleeding. Apply pressure to the wound with a clean cloth or bandage until the bleeding stops.
2. Clean the wound. Once the bleeding has stopped, gently clean the wound with soap and water.
3. Apply antibiotic ointment. Apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment to the wound.
4. Cover the wound. Cover the wound with a clean bandage.
5. Elevate the leg. If possible, elevate the child's leg to reduce swelling.
6. Monitor the wound. Watch for signs of infection, such as increased pain, swelling, redness, or pus.
7. Seek medical attention. If the wound is deep or appears to be infected, seek medical attention from a doctor or nurse.
Additional tips:
* If the child is in a lot of pain, you can give them over-the-counter pain medication, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen.
* Keep the wound clean and dry until it has healed.
* Change the bandage daily.
* If the child gets their wound wet, dry it immediately and reapply antibiotic ointment and a new bandage.
* Watch for signs of infection. If you see any signs of infection, contact your doctor or nurse.
