Medicare May Pay for Your Gastric Bypass?
Medicare may cover gastric bypass surgery if you meet certain criteria. To qualify for Medicare coverage, you must have:
- Tried and failed to lose weight through diet, exercise, and medication
- A body mass index (BMI) of 35 or higher
- One or more obesity-related medical condition, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, or sleep apnea
Medicare may also cover gastric bypass surgery if you are a type 1 diabetic and have a BMI of 30 or higher.
