How to Care for a Tattoo During Removal
Laser treatments are the most effective method for removing tattoos. However, laser removal requires several treatments. After each session, you must care for the affected area to avoid scarring and infections. Follow these tips to ensure a safe tattoo removal.Things You'll Need
- Antibiotic ointment
- Gauze
- Soap
- Lotion
Instructions
Ice the affected area to help minimize swelling.
Apply an antibiotic ointment on the affected area.
Immediately following a treatment, there will be bleeding and irritation so cover the affected area wit gauze. Keep the area covered for a few days if your tattoo is in an area where your clothes rub against your skin.
Gently clean the affected area with mild soap and warm water.
Rub lotion on the affected area once any bleeding has subsided and healing has begun. Scabs may form, making the area itchy. Non-fragranced lotions can ease the itchiness and help avoid scratching open the scabs.
Schedule a follow-up appointment so your surgeon can determine if you are healing properly or if an infection has occurred.
