Michelangelo's Broken Nose: The Story of a Rivalry

In 1524 while Michelangelo was designing a fortified entrance for the city of Florence, he was struck in the face by a mallet; either intentionally or accidentally, by Pietro Torrigiano, a fellow artist who was jealous of Michelangelo's talent and success. The blow broke Michelangelo's nose.
