Coronary Bypass Surgery: Understanding the Number of Bypasses

In most cases, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) involves grafting one or more blood vessels from elsewhere in the body to the coronary arteries above and below blockages. The number of bypasses required depends on the number and location of the blockages. Most commonly, anywhere between one and six bypasses are grafted, but in rare and complex cases, up to eight or even ten bypasses may be necessary.
