What materials are used in chin implants?
Chin implants are typically made of one of three materials:
Silicone: Silicone is the most common material used in chin implants. It is a soft, flexible material that can be easily sculpted to create the desired shape. Silicone implants are also relatively affordable.
Medpor: Medpor is a porous polyethylene material that is strong and durable. It is often used in chin implants when additional support is needed, such as in patients with thin skin or weak jawbones. Medpor implants are more expensive than silicone implants.
Gore-Tex: Gore-Tex is an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) material that is soft and flexible. It is often used in chin implants when a more natural look is desired. Gore-Tex implants are more expensive than silicone or Medpor implants.
The best material for a chin implant will depend on the individual patient's needs and preferences. Your surgeon will be able to help you choose the right material for you.
