What is a posterior lobe?
Posterior lobe:
- Part of the pituitary gland.
- Consists of nervous tissue containing axons from neurons whose cell bodies are located in the brain (supraoptic nucleus and paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus).
- Axons terminate in nerve endings that contact capillaries, releasing their hormones (vasopressin and oxytocin), which diffuse into nearby sinusoids.
