Corpus Callosum: Function and Why It's Not Typically Severed

Neurosurgeons do not sever the corpus callosum in humans to reduce anything. The corpus callosum is a major white matter structure in the brain that connects the left and right cerebral hemispheres. It is responsible for the transfer of information between the hemispheres and is essential for cognitive functioning, such as memory, language, and attention. Therefore, severing the corpus callosum would result in significant cognitive deficits and is not performed as a medical treatment.
