Responding to an Unconscious Patient: Essential First Aid Guidelines
* Do not move the patient unless absolutely necessary. If the patient is in a dangerous environment, such as a fire, you may need to move them. However, otherwise, it is best to leave the patient in the position you found them.* Do not give the patient any food or drink. An unconscious patient may choke or aspirate on food or drink.
* Do not try to wake the patient. If the patient is unconscious, it means that their brain is not getting enough oxygen. Trying to wake them up may further reduce the amount of oxygen their brain is receiving.
* Do not leave the patient alone. Stay with the patient until help arrives. This will help protect the patient from harm and ensure that they are properly cared for.
