The common peroneal nerve (lateral popliteal nerve) innervates the muscles responsible for dorsiflexion of the foot and eversion of the foot. Damage to this nerve can result in a shuffling gait, also known as steppage gait, characterized by high stepping to avoid dragging the toes on the ground.
