The lining of the skull, also known as the dura mater, is typically not removed during an autopsy. The dura mater is a tough, fibrous membrane that lines the inside of the cranium and helps to protect the brain. It is usually left intact during an autopsy to preserve the integrity of the brain and protect it from damage during the examination.
