Construction Site Safety: A Comprehensive Guide to Staying Safe
With so many hazardous activities being undertaken at any one time, a building site can be a dangerous place to be. With power tools running, wires spread out and equipment moving back and forth, a construction site requires attention to safety at all times.-
Be Aware of Your Surroundings
-
Always look carefully for any potential dangers before entering a construction area. If attending the site as a visitor, speak to the person in charge to find out about any immediate dangers or areas where you should not be. Do not allow yourself to be distracted and always remember there may be unseen dangers. Watch where you walk.
Always Wear a Hard Hat and Boots
-
A hard hat and a pair of steel-toed boots should be worn at all times on construction sites. Under OSHA laws, these are usually required as part of personal safety equipment for all construction workers.
Take Care With Tools
-
Power tools are inherently dangerous. When using power tools, reciprocating or portable saws, additional protective clothing may be required. This may mean wearing goggles, gloves, ear plugs or even a harness if working at height. Verify that tools are in proper working condition and safety guards have not been removed.
