Electric Pallet Jack Safety: Training & Load Handling
Electrical pallet jacks are designed to help avoid dangerous situations by lifting heavy loads without the need for the operator to physically lift the object and risk physical injury.-
Training
-
To ensure the safety of electrical pallet jack operators, training should be provided in a practical, hands-on manner by persons trained in the use of the machinery. Training should be specific to the machinery being used by the operator.
Loads
-
Each electric pallet jack should be equipped with a printed sign bearing information about the load capacity of the machine, which should not be exceeded. Loads should be centered and lifted with both forks of the electric pallet jack.
General
-
General safety rules regarding the use of electrical pallet jacks include keeping the load between four inches and six inches above the ground during movement and ensuring the load is not turned quickly allowing the load to shift. Other general safety rules include never carrying passengers on the forks of the pallet jack.
