Smog Busters: Industrial Ventilation Systems Explained
A Smog Buster is a ventilation system often used in industrial work environments. It provides air movement in confined work spaces to ensure the safety of employees.-
Hazards
-
The Smog Buster ventilation removes contaminants, dust and particulate matter from a work space. Hazardous gases that must be controlled -- under regulations introduced by OSHA -- are usually removed from the atmosphere by the Smog Buster.
Movement
-
Movement of air is achieved at up to 10,000 cfm, because air is passed through an 18-inch diameter duct. Personal work stations are frequently ventilated to provide suction, moving particles and gases out of a confined space.
Heat
-
A Smog Buster ventilation system provides heating to maintain an ambient temperature of around 70 F. This is achieved by a flameless heater powered by a diesel engine. Smog Buster systems allow different industrial activities to be performed in the same work space, including metal spray and welding.
