How to Prepare for OC Spray Training
Oleoresin Capsicum or OC spray is commonly used by law enforcement to fend off attacks. The solution is a potent mix of chili peppers that will sting painfully if sprayed neared the eyes. Most law recruits have to complete OC training by having to experience what it is like to be sprayed themselves. Getting sprayed with OC can cause burning, redness of the eye and also inflammation.Things You'll Need
- Ibuprofen
- Dish washing liquid
Instructions
Remove your contact lenses if you wear them. After you are sprayed, having contacts in your eyes can cause even more irritation. Removing the contacts after your OC exposure can also spread the oil solution and cause further burning to your eyes.
Remain calm. Do not become anxious or nervous before your spray. There will be a level of pain, but that pain will be temporary.
Take an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory an hour before your OC exposure. This will minimize the swelling. Continue to take the medication as needed until the pain and swelling goes down.
Do not rub your face after the exposure. Wash your face with a dishwashing soap after you have been sprayed. This will remove any of the residual oil remaining on your face.
