Asbestos Cement: Properties, History, and Health Risks

The building material made from cement sheets reinforced with asbestos fibers is called asbestos cement. This material was commonly used in construction in mid 20th century. However, due to health risks associated with asbestos fibers, its use has vastly decreased in many countries as it was found to cause serious respiratory diseases such as asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma.
