One third of all cancer related deaths are due to smoking tobacco?
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that tobacco kills more than 8 million people each year, making it one of the leading causes of preventable death worldwide. Of these deaths, approximately one third are due to cancer.
Tobacco smoke contains over 7,000 chemicals, many of which are known carcinogens. These chemicals can damage DNA and lead to the development of cancer in various organs and tissues, including the lungs, mouth, throat, oesophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, kidney, and cervix.
