Currently, only two options exist for making cigarettes smokeless -- don't light up or use an electronic cigarette. In one indicator of interest, Internet searches for smokeless cigarettes, e-cigarettes or electronic cigarettes increased sharply, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services at the time of publication. E-cigarette ads market their cigarettes as a familiar way to get nicotine where smoking is prohibited. Smokeless cigarettes still contain nicotine and various other chemicals; testing is ongoing to determine the safety of these products.
