According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the world generates approximately 3.5 million tons of solid waste per day. This waste includes biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials such as food scraps, paper, plastics, metals, and electronics. Of this total, 1.6 million tons are generated in high-income countries and 1.9 million tons in low-income countries.
