Effective Foot Spa Cleaning: A Guide to Hygiene & Safety
Foot spas offer their users a means of soaking their feet to soften the skin and relax any tired muscles. When a foot spa is being used by more than one person, or on a regular basis by the same person, it is important to carefully clean the foot spa to prevent the spread of bacteria and fungus among patrons. Thankfully, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) offers specific guidelines for proper cleaning and care that will protect patrons from disease.Things You'll Need
- Scrubbing brush
- Detergent
- EPA-registered hospital disinfectant (In accordance with the EPA, the label will state the following: disinfectant, bacteriacide, virucide, fungicide; for hospital, institutional and home use.)
Instructions
Drain all the water out of the foot spa and rinse away any debris such as dead skin, dirt or nail clippings.
Clean the entire foot spa with detergent, scrubbing all the surfaces down with a scrubbing brush. Rinse out the detergent thoroughly.
Disinfect the foot spa with an EPA-registered hospital disinfectant, following the disinfectant's specific guidelines and leaving it to sit in the foot spa for the recommended time. If there are any circulating jets, then circulate the disinfectant during the sterilizing time.
Drain the disinfectant from the spa and give the spa a final rinse.
