Understanding Internal Respiration: The Key to Cellular Energy
Internal respiration is crucial to the daily functioning of human beings. Unlike normal respiration, which involves the body interacting with the external environment by breathing, internal respiration is the diffusion of materials within the cells of the body.-
Purpose

The primary purpose of internal respiration is to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide in the cells. The cells absorb oxygen, which is necessary for metabolism and producing energy, and release carbon dioxide, which is a waste product from said metabolism.
Considerations

The carbon dioxide-rich blood and the oxygen-rich blood do not overlap. This is because they are pumped through different parts of the heart, with oxygen-rich blood going through the arteries and carbon dioxide-rich blood going though the veins.
Connection

While internal respiration only refers to the aspect of respiration that occurs within the body, it does not connect to the overall system of respiration. Oxygen originally comes in through the lungs, while carbon dioxide is exhaled through the lungs after being processed through the heart.
